    Hi,
    I love the hollies!
One thing I would love to see, which I believe could be achieved with the help of the Scottish gardener at the hollies is more labels on plants trees and shrubs.
I know there is some fairly interesting specimens here such as the paulownia tree and I know there is alot more. It would be great to see them all fully labelled with Latin genus, species and cultivar/hybrid names.

I know this may be a bit of a task, but I think it’s well worth it!

    Cheers,

    Nicky

    • We are about to commence a project cataloguing plants in The Hollies. Any help would be appreciated!

We have regular working days on 2nd Saturday of each month, and can also be contacted through this blog, or via email.

    Hello!

I would love to get involved and help out.
Unfortunately weekends are pretty tricky for me as I work in events, but weekdays / evenings are great.

I also have an English oak which I would love to plant if possible within the hollies, would that be ok?

I have an allotment where I grow fruit and veg in headingley and For many years I have regularly walked around the Hollies, I love it there!

I look forward to hearing from you,

    • Hi Ben, thanks for getting in touch. We mostly get together on the 2nd Saturday of each month, but 2-3 people work with Frank (gardener in The Hollies) on Wednesdays. They meet in the car park at 2pm. I’m not sure which Wednesdays, but I will find out.

I would also be interested in Weds pm, if that’s possible. What sort of tools should I bring? Not sure I can do very heavy work, so it depends what needs doing. Thanks!

    Hi there,
Reading your announcement (August 2020), I know your meetings / events are still cancelled until at least the end of September, but im just wondering if there is anything at all happening over the next few weeks for my mum to be involved in?
My mum moved to Leeds from South Shields only a few weeks before lockdown started and has been unable to meet people or get involved in anything since February, meaning she is very isolated and lonely. She lives local to the Hollies and walks there most days when the weather is fine. She used to be a member of Friends of the Marine Park in South Shields prior to moving here and used to get involved in all sorts of activities so I’d love to be able to link her up with yourselves as soon as things get moving again.
Would you mind letting me know when you’re looking at restarting your meetings again soon?
    Many thanks,
    Liz

We hope to start work again on October 10th but we need Leeds Council approval first.
Your mother could speak to Frank the Head Gardener at The Hollies about other volunteering to help in the Park. He’s usually at his cabin near the car park between 12.00 & 1.00.

  10. Rebecca says:

    Thanks

Hi, Is this group still active ?. I live nearby. If so I’d like to find out about volunteering at the Hollies helping with woodland and gardening on a weekend
    Thanks 😊

  12. Hi

Would it be possible to collect cuttings from the philadelphus collection this Friday please? I’ve tried contacting the council parks department, but haven’t had a response.

I’m working with Whatton House to set up a national collection of philadelphus bred by Lemonie.

    Thanks

    • Liz Bailey says:

Hello, I β€˜m sorry but the Friends are not in a position to give authority to do cuttings. You must get permission first. The best person to ask is Frank, the Head Gardener. You will find him at the stone hut near the car park. Liz Bailey Chair Sent from my iPhone
