Our next meeting is Saturday 13th October meeting at 10am in the car park.
We have a few thousand bulbs ordered which will hopefully arrive before the 13th so we should be doing some serious planting!
Please bring trowels and spades if possible in preparation – the ground is quite soft at the moment which will help.
There will also be general woodland clearing to do.
Refreshments will be provided at the end to reward us for all our hard work!
Next dates as follows:
Saturday 10th November
Saturday 8th December
Saturday 12th January
A huge thank you to all who helped with and/or attended the plant sale on May 19th.
Special thanks to those who helped with the set up and clearance of the plant stall and drinks / cake stall, to those who baked delicious cakes, and also to Frank for all his hard work. The fantastic profit of over £600 included £45 on cakes & drinks and a very generous donation from our patron. Once again we were lucky to have fine weather which meant lots of customers despite clashing with the Royal Wedding – well done everyone! Check out the pictures posted earlier.
It’s back to normal for our next session on Saturday June 9th – meet as usual at 10am in the car park and bring along a selection of tools. Hopefully we’ll have dry weather and get plenty of work done.
Please note we have no meetings in July or August this year.
Future dates are;
Saturday September 8th at 10am.
Saturday October 13th at 10am.
Please come along and help – even half an hour will make a difference
A huge thank you to everyone who came to the sale and bought plants or cakes! We raised just over £600, which will be spent on bulbs and plants etc for The Hollies.
Our annual plant sale takes place on Saturday 19th May starting at 9.30am. If you can assist with setting up we’ll be doing so from 8.45 onwards and would appreciate any help you can give. If not then come along and buy some plants!
We’ll have a wide range of bedding plants, perennials, shrubs, vegetables and herbs for sale as well as drinks and home made cakes. All profits are used to buy bulbs and shrubs for planting in The Hollies. This is a great opportunity to start stocking up your garden and helping a very worthwhile cause – all are welcome.
The next session after this is Saturday 9th June and then we have a break in July and August before starting again on Saturday 8th September.
Thanks to everyone who came along in March and helped out with more cutting back and clearing.
Well – spring is officially here and, despite the snow, we have a fantastic display of daffodils throughout The Hollies. Thanks to everyone who took part in the planting session last year.
Our next working session takes place on Saturday 14th April at 10am, meeting in the main Hollies car park off Weetwood Lane. The ground will probably still be muddy so wear appropriate footwear and bring any garden tools you have. We’ll work for around two hours and finish off with hot drinks and home made cakes – a much needed reward for all our hard work!
Our next date is on Saturday 19th May (the 3rd Saturday in May NOT the 2nd) which is our annual fund raising plant sale. We’ll be asking for volunteers to help on the day – especially for setting up from 8.45 to 9.30am when the sale starts and also to run the drinks and cake stall. If you’re also able to make a cake that would be great too. We’ll give more details on 14th April but if you’re not going to be there send an e-mail to let us know if you can help.
May 19th at 9.30am will be our annual plant sale – we’ll be needing volunteers on the day so please keep the date free
June 9th at 10am
July 14th at 10am
Thanks to everyone who braved the elements to join us for our first session of the new year.
Our next working session takes place on Saturday 10th February at 10am, meeting in the main Hollies car park off Weetwood Lane as usual.
The ground’s very muddy so wear appropriate footwear and bring any garden tools you have. Also recommended are sturdy gloves – especially if we’re clearing brambles! We’ll work for around two hours and finish off with hot drinks and home made cakes – a much needed reward for all our hard work!
March 10th at 10am
April 14th at 10am
May will be our annual plant sale – watch this space for more info next time
A very happy New Year to all our dedicated volunteers!!
Hope you all had a good break over the festive season and are ready to work hard to get rid of some of those mince pies.
We start again on Saturday 13th January 2018 and then meet every second Saturday in the month. Meet at 10am in the main Hollies car park (off Weetwood Lane).
It’s very muddy underfoot at the moment so appropriate footwear is a must. Also bring sturdy gloves and spades/forks/secateurs as we will be clearing brambles near the nursery.
Saturday 10th February
Saturday 10th March
Saturday 14th April
Hope to see you all soon.
Saturday 9th December is our last working session of the year so please attend if you can – meeting at 10am in the car park as usual. The Hollies car park is still open if you approach coming up Weetwood Lane from Headingley but the road is currently closed coming from the ring road.
There’s still plenty of clearing and chopping to be done so bring spades, forks, secateurs and loppers. The ground is quite muddy at the moment so wear appropriate footwear and be prepared to wrap up warm!!
There will be festive refreshments afterwards – mince pies and maybe a drop of mulled wine.
We’d like to thank you all for your hard work throughout the year and hope to see you on the 9th.
Future dates in 2018:
Saturday 13th January 10am
Saturday 10th February 10am
Saturday 10th March 10am
The Hollies car park is still open!
Weetwood Lane is closed to allow Yorkshire Water to repair the sewer collapse that was recently identified. The closure is from Oxley Hall to The Hollies and will last for 5 weeks from 22 November.
The 28 bus service is diverted via Otley road and the Ring Road, but a free shuttle bus, operated by Leeds City Travel, will run between Weetwood Lane and Headingley Arndale Centre where connections can be made to other services.
