Thanks to all our volunteers who came along to our September meeting and worked so hard to clear a large area ready for bulb planting this month. We have around 5,000 spring bulbs which should keep everybody busy for a couple of hours or so! Fortunately we have been offered help from the Leeds University Union Conservation Volunteers which we have gratefully accepted.
The ground is still muddy so stout walking shoes are recommended along with gardening gloves and trowels & spades if you have them. As ever we will be rewarded with a hot drink and home made cakes when we finish! Meet as usual at 10am in The Hollies car park.
Saturday 12th November at 10am
Saturday 10th December at 10am
We look forward to seeing you all.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying this late summer sunshine – better late than never!
After a summer break you should all be rested and raring to get on with some work in The Hollies – we start again on Saturday10th September meeting as usual at 10am in The Hollies car park.
We’re in the process of ordering 1000’s of bulbs for planting in October and November so there’ll be plenty of clearing to do in preparation for that. There will be a variety of other jobs to do as well and even helping for a little while can make a big difference.
Remember stout shoes/boots and gloves. Refreshments will be provided.
Future diary dates:
Saturday 8th October – 10am
Saturday 12th November – 10am
Saturday10th December – 10am
Hope you can join us!
Thanks to those who helped at our June meeting. We did a lot of clearing down by the nursery to stop the philadelphus getting choked and to clear space for more planting.
Our next meeting is on Saturday 9th July at 10am and it’s the last one until September so please come along if you can.
Hopefully we’ll get some drier weather so the ground won’t be quite as boggy as it’s been recently!
Saturday 9th July at 10am.
No meeting in August.
Saturday 10th September at 10am.
Saturday 8th October at 10am.
It’s back to normal for our next session on June 11th – meet as usual at 10am in the car park and bring along a selection of tools. Hopefully we’ll have dry weather and get plenty of work done.
Future dates are;
Saturday July 9th at 10am.
No meeting in August.
Saturday September 10th at 10am.
Please come along and help – even half an hour will make a difference!
All the money is now in, and all the calculations have been done, and we did even better than mentioned earlier. We made a fantastic profit of over £700 – including £35 on cakes & drinks and a very generous donation from our patron. Once again we were lucky to have fine weather which meant lots of customers – well done everyone!
Some pictures from our recent plant sale! Huge thank you to everyone who helped or bought plants – we made nearly £600!
After a few mild meetings the winter finally weather caught up with us last time!
At 9am it was snowing but despite the wintry conditions a hardy group turned up and got on with clearing broken branches from the huge fur trees, pulling out brambles and clearing a stream. All in all it was a good morning’s work.
Our next date is Saturday March 12th, meeting in the main car park at 10am. It’s still very muddy so wear stout footwear and bring thick gloves – also the usual secateurs, spades and loppers. Refreshments will be provided as usual by our resident bakers.
Next dates are:
Saturday 9th April at 10am
Saturday 14th May at 9.30am for the plant sale
Saturday 11th June at 10am
Please start thinking about how you can help at the plant sale. We’ll be starting at 9.30 so will need as many volunteers as possible to help set up from 8.30 onwards. We also need people to man the stalls – taking money and possibly answering questions. We’ll be running a drinks and cake stall too so home made cakes in abundance please! There’ll be another reminder next time and it would be useful if you could e-mail a reply if you are able to help out.
As ever, publicity is all important so please start spreading the word!!
We hope that you all had a restful Christmas break, and wish you all the best for 2016!
Why not start the year by coming along to our first working party, meeting at 10am in the car park of The Hollies. Blow away the cobwebs and burn off a Christmas chocolate or two! Even helping for a short time can make a difference.
Remember you will need gloves and stout shoes/boots – something waterproof might be a good idea!
We are meeting at 10am this Saturday for the final working party of the year. There will be a variety of jobs to do, and helping for just a short while can make a difference.
Hope you can join us!
