Our annual plant sale takes place on Saturday 19th May starting at 9.30am. If you can assist with setting up we’ll be doing so from 8.45 onwards and would appreciate any help you can give. If not then come along and buy some plants!
We’ll have a wide range of bedding plants, perennials, shrubs, vegetables and herbs for sale as well as drinks and home made cakes. All profits are used to buy bulbs and shrubs for planting in The Hollies. This is a great opportunity to start stocking up your garden and helping a very worthwhile cause – all are welcome.
The next session after this is Saturday 9th June and then we have a break in July and August before starting again on Saturday 8th September.
Thanks to everyone who came along in March and helped out with more cutting back and clearing.
Well – spring is officially here and, despite the snow, we have a fantastic display of daffodils throughout The Hollies. Thanks to everyone who took part in the planting session last year.
Our next working session takes place on Saturday 14th April at 10am, meeting in the main Hollies car park off Weetwood Lane. The ground will probably still be muddy so wear appropriate footwear and bring any garden tools you have. We’ll work for around two hours and finish off with hot drinks and home made cakes – a much needed reward for all our hard work!
Our next date is on Saturday 19th May (the 3rd Saturday in May NOT the 2nd) which is our annual fund raising plant sale. We’ll be asking for volunteers to help on the day – especially for setting up from 8.45 to 9.30am when the sale starts and also to run the drinks and cake stall. If you’re also able to make a cake that would be great too. We’ll give more details on 14th April but if you’re not going to be there send an e-mail to let us know if you can help.
May 19th at 9.30am will be our annual plant sale – we’ll be needing volunteers on the day so please keep the date free
June 9th at 10am
July 14th at 10am
Thanks to everyone who braved the elements to join us for our first session of the new year.
Our next working session takes place on Saturday 10th February at 10am, meeting in the main Hollies car park off Weetwood Lane as usual.
The ground’s very muddy so wear appropriate footwear and bring any garden tools you have. Also recommended are sturdy gloves – especially if we’re clearing brambles! We’ll work for around two hours and finish off with hot drinks and home made cakes – a much needed reward for all our hard work!
March 10th at 10am
April 14th at 10am

A very happy New Year to all our dedicated volunteers!!
Hope you all had a good break over the festive season and are ready to work hard to get rid of some of those mince pies.
We start again on Saturday 13th January 2018 and then meet every second Saturday in the month. Meet at 10am in the main Hollies car park (off Weetwood Lane).
It’s very muddy underfoot at the moment so appropriate footwear is a must. Also bring sturdy gloves and spades/forks/secateurs as we will be clearing brambles near the nursery.
Saturday 10th February
Saturday 10th March
Saturday 14th April
Hope to see you all soon.
Saturday 9th December is our last working session of the year so please attend if you can – meeting at 10am in the car park as usual. The Hollies car park is still open if you approach coming up Weetwood Lane from Headingley but the road is currently closed coming from the ring road.
There’s still plenty of clearing and chopping to be done so bring spades, forks, secateurs and loppers. The ground is quite muddy at the moment so wear appropriate footwear and be prepared to wrap up warm!!
There will be festive refreshments afterwards – mince pies and maybe a drop of mulled wine.
We’d like to thank you all for your hard work throughout the year and hope to see you on the 9th.
Future dates in 2018:
Saturday 13th January 10am
Saturday 10th February 10am
Saturday 10th March 10am
The Hollies car park is still open!
Weetwood Lane is closed to allow Yorkshire Water to repair the sewer collapse that was recently identified. The closure is from Oxley Hall to The Hollies and will last for 5 weeks from 22 November.
The 28 bus service is diverted via Otley road and the Ring Road, but a free shuttle bus, operated by Leeds City Travel, will run between Weetwood Lane and Headingley Arndale Centre where connections can be made to other services.
The timetable can be found by clicking on the link below:
Great to see so many regular volunteers last month as well as a huge number of LUU students. We managed to plant all the daffodil bulbs ( 750 in total!) and cleared a well used path of overhanging branches to make it more accessible.
We meet again at 10am in the Weetwood Lane car park on Saturday 11th November. There will be more bulbs to plant and lots of general clearing to be done so plenty for everyone. A selection of tools will be available but please bring spades, forks, trowels and secateurs if possible. We’ll finish around noon and have some well earned refreshments!
Future dates for your diary:
Saturday 9th December at 10am
Saturday 13th January at 10am
Saturday 10th February at 10am
Thanks again to everyone for your continued help and support.
Hope everyone had a good summer and that you’re all raring to get back to work in The Hollies.
We have exciting news this month as we’ve been told we have won a Platinum Award in the Parks In Bloom competition which includes many parks in the Leeds area. A huge WELL DONE to Frank and his team and to all our volunteers who have contributed. Our hard work and dedication is obviously appreciated!
Our work on Saturday 14th October starts at 10am meeting in the Weetwood Lane car park as usual.Frank has bulbs for us to plant ( not the 5,000 we did last year but plenty to keep us occupied!). there will also be the usual clearing and cutting back so bring trowels, spades, forks, loppers and saws.
Refreshments will be available afterwards from our dedicated catering staff!
Saturday November 11th at 10am
Saturday 9th December at 10am
Thanks to all who attended and helped with the plant sale and cake stall in May.
Fortunately we had good weather and made over £600 profit all of which will be used to buy shrubs, plants and bulbs for The Hollies.
Last month’s project involved clearing an area we planted up last year with hostas which started off as little more than clumps of earth with tiny shoots and are now in full bloom and looking quite spectacular.
We know a lot of regular volunteers are away on holiday so if you are available on 8th July please try to attend. There’s no meeting in August so the one after this will be on 9th September.
In the meantime we wish you all an enjoyable summer!
