The working group on Saturday was presented with a huge pile of bark chippings that needed moving and spreading around the philadelphus, near to the tennis courts. We faced this with a mixture of emotions – it was quite a daunting pile – but 11 people set to with at least 6 wheelbarrows, 3 rakes and plenty of spades. In less than 2 hours the pile had gone, the whole of the bed had been mulched with the bark, and we had a great sense of a job well done.
